Postpartum Psychiatry Services in Florida — Integrative Care for Every Stage of Motherhood
You're getting up every day. You're caring for your baby. You're holding it together — and from the outside, no one would know otherwise. But inside, something still feels off. You feel depleted in a way that sleep doesn't fix, and you can't quite explain it to anyone who hasn't lived it.
At Bloom & Balance Psychiatry, that's exactly who we built this practice for. We specialize in postpartum psychiatric care for Florida women at every stage of the motherhood arc — from newly postpartum to planning a next pregnancy. This isn't general psychiatry with postpartum as a checkbox. It's all we do.
What We Treat
We provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and medication management for the full spectrum of perinatal and postpartum conditions.
Postpartum Depression
More than sadness. Postpartum depression often shows up as emotional flatness, irritability, or a quiet sense that you've lost yourself — even while life looks fine from the outside. We assess the full picture before recommending any treatment path.
Postpartum depression treatment in Florida →Postpartum Anxiety
Racing thoughts, hypervigilance, the constant sense that something is about to go wrong. Postpartum anxiety is frequently underdiagnosed, particularly in women who present as "high-functioning." We know what to look for.
Anxiety vs. depression — read the guide →How long does postpartum anxiety last? →Postpartum OCD
Intrusive, unwanted thoughts that don't reflect who you are or what you would ever do. Postpartum OCD is one of the most misunderstood perinatal conditions — and one that our practice is specifically trained to recognize and treat without shame or alarm.
Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs)
PMADs cover the full range of mood and anxiety conditions occurring during the perinatal window — pregnancy through the postpartum period. You don't need a recent birth to qualify for support. If you're still navigating symptoms 1–3 years later, that's real, and it's treatable.
Recognize the signs of postpartum psychosis →Hormonal Mood Disruption
Estrogen and progesterone fluctuation, postpartum thyroid changes, and nutritional depletion can all drive mood symptoms that look like depression but require a different clinical lens. We investigate the physiology behind your symptoms, not just the symptom list itself.
ADHD and Postpartum Hormonal Intersection
Many women first recognize — or significantly worsen — their ADHD in the postpartum period. Hormonal shifts directly affect dopamine regulation and executive function. We evaluate ADHD in the context of postpartum physiology, not in isolation.
Medication Management During Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Navigating psychiatric medication while pregnant or nursing requires specialized knowledge. We provide evidence-informed recommendations that weigh your mental health against infant safety — clearly, without pressure in either direction.
Our approach to medication management →How We Work
Bloom & Balance operates on an integrative psychiatric model. Medication is a tool we use when appropriate — not the first and only answer. Before any prescription, we investigate root causes: hormonal changes, thyroid function, sleep deprivation patterns, nutritional gaps, and the full weight of what you're carrying.
Our practice is 100% virtual and serves women across all of Florida. No commutes. No waiting rooms. No arranging childcare for a 15-minute appointment.
What your first appointment looks like
We start by listening — not just to your symptoms, but to your story. What was your pregnancy like? Your birth experience? What does life actually look like right now? We review your history, ask the questions your OB may not have had time for, and build a clinical picture that connects the dots. Most patients leave the first appointment feeling heard in a way they hadn't been before. From there, we build a plan together.
Who We See
We see women who are functioning but not flourishing. Specifically:
New moms navigating the early postpartum blur who feel like they should feel better than they do
Moms 1–3 years postpartum whose symptoms haven't resolved and who've been told "that's just motherhood"
Women planning a next pregnancy who want to be psychiatrically stable going in, or who want to taper off medication safely with clinical guidance
Women managing an existing diagnosis through the added complexity of pregnancy or postpartum hormonal shifts
If you've ever sat in a general psychiatry appointment and felt like your provider didn't quite understand the postpartum dimension of what you were describing — that's the gap we're here to close. Read our complete postpartum guide if you're still figuring out where you fit.
Why Bloom & Balance
Annabelle Carney, PA-Cis the founder and clinical lead at Bloom & Balance Psychiatry. She is a board-certified Physician Associate with a clinical focus specifically on postpartum care.
She built this practice because she saw the same pattern over and over: women who were clearly suffering, who had done everything right, whose labs came back “normal” — and who had been sent home without answers. The biology behind postpartum mood disruption is real. The hormonal mechanisms are real. And they deserve a postpartum psychiatric specialist who treats them as such, not a generalist fitting you into a standard intake form.
At Bloom & Balance, you won't get a 15-minute med check with a provider managing 200 other conditions across the full diagnostic range. You'll get a provider who has read the same research you've been Googling at 2am — and who can translate it into a care plan that actually fits your life.

FAQs
Do you take insurance?
Yes. Bloom & Balance is in-network with Cigna and UHC/Optum. Many patients are also seen as self-pay. Contact us to confirm your specific plan.
Do I need a formal diagnosis to work with you?
No. Many women come in saying 'I just don't feel like myself' — that's a completely valid starting point. You don't need a prior diagnosis to make an appointment.
Is it safe to take medications while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Many psychiatric medications can be safely continued during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Annabelle Carney, PA-C stays current with the evidence and will walk you through the real data so you can make an informed decision — not a fear-based one.
What is integrative psychiatry?
Integrative psychiatry addresses root causes alongside symptoms. It combines conventional psychiatric care (medication when appropriate) with nutrition, supplements, functional labs, lifestyle, and psychotherapy techniques. It treats the whole person — not just the diagnosis.
Are all visits virtual?
Yes. All appointments are conducted via secure telehealth, from the comfort of your home. Available to patients throughout Florida.
Can I be seen without taking medication?
Absolutely. Medication is one option — not a requirement. Many women work with Annabelle Carney, PA-C on nutrition, supplements, functional labs, and lifestyle approaches with no medication involved. We decide together what makes sense for you.
